Plant Research Institute
  • 1st lab

    The 1st lab is responsible for process analysis, quality inspection and analysis technology development for monomer products including ethylene, benzene, ethylene glycol, and MMA, and also takes charge of response and authorized testing for domestic and international substance control.

  • 2nd lab

    The 2nd lab is responsible for researches of polymerization catalyst for HDPE and PP, process optimization using simulation program, operation of MPO plant, property enhancement efforts, and utilization of other by-products.

  • 3rd lab

    The 3rd lab is responsible for process analysis, quality management of polymer plants for HDPE, PP, PET, and composite resin, and quality enhancement, quality assurance and customer technical service for polymer products.

Research Fields of the Production Technology Research Institute
Analysis Sector The Institute is quickly responding to customer needs by promptly providing analytical data and conducting R&D on new analytics including shortening analysis time, automation of analytics, and performance of online analysis. It is also carrying out R&D on analytics in relation to substances subject to international environment regulations such as the 4 heavy metals, brominated flame retardant, and water quality analysis to overcome international trade barriers and secure product competitiveness.
Product Sector The Institute is developing systems for discovering items needing quality improvement, studying ways of minimizing defects, and continuously monitoring quality problems centered on polymer products to meet customers’ needs, which are becoming increasingly differentiated.
Catalyst Sector The institute has contributed considerably to improving PE’s physical properties and reducing the basic unit of PE by developing the catalysts used for the HDPE process. It is also aiding in the stable operation of the HDPE plant through accurate, experience-based estimation of LOTTE CHEMICAL’s HDPE catalyst production along with ongoing research on catalysts and carriers that can be applied to PP production.
Process Sector Located within the plant, the Institute is increasing efficiency, reducing energy, and ensuring stable operation through process improvements resulting from the active utilization of process optimization and process simulation techniques. It is also striving to introduce and develop new technologies that will enhance process competitiveness.
Adhesive resin (MPO) plant This plant produces high value-added adhesive resin (MPO) constructed by LOTTE CHEMICAL’s technology and is in charge of production-related business.
